Rhodie Lamour: Evolve with style

Interview with a woman of mind and heart. As part of Montreal Fashion Week, Rhodie Lamour offers a conference on self-image as an asset in communication.

Rhodie Lamour (@rhodielamour) is an image consultant, her slogan: Evolve with style. She is also involved in various spheres of fashion and business. Always active on television and in Dominican newspapers, where she lived and worked, the entrepreneur of Haitian origin is also well present here in Quebec, where she is notably the regional president of the Quebec Network of Business Women for Montreal-East, in addition to offering image services to individuals and businesses. She is also an author and creator of a jewelry line eponymous.

Your professional background is quite impressive. First an engineer, what made you turn to fashion?

I was born in Cap-Haïtien, the second city of Haiti. When I was little, I was super thin and we had difficulty finding clothes that fit me well. So, my mother, a nurse, learned to sew in order to make my clothes. That’s where I had contact with books on morphology, with fabrics. Then, when I studied at Fashion Institute of Technologybalance entre mes passions et ma carrière. Cela m'a permis de m'épanouir et de m'investir pleinement dans ce que j'aime faire. Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, then I left. I found my world, then I found myself too. I like to say that I left the equipment to choose the people.

You also have a book to your credit, Love and Style: A Winning Couple, who addresses  the impact of style in couple communication. Can you tell us about it?

Something that warmed my heart upon arriving in Montreal is that people love books. I had already had contact with Quebec literature since, when I was younger, I volunteered at an organization that took books from Quebec and sent them to Haiti. It has me permission to open myself to the world through books. Then, I had family living in Montreal and since I was little, it was a project for me to move there. I always told myself that when I came to live in Quebec, I would be an author and that happened during my first year here! The book is practical because it allows people to get to know me and to circulate my work, it's as if the book goes where I do not go no. I did not expect such success.
